"I'm at the age where food has taken the place of sex in my life. In fact, I've just had a mirror put over my kitchen table."

My secret love for direct comedy is something that sneaks into my daily life every once in a while. I love Rodney Dangerfield; he reminds me of a time you could be blunt without worrying about being publicly flogged.

As some of you also know, I love food. No, I adore food, sometimes having my favorite meal of mussels at Chambar makes me want to bliss out to the point of forgetting where I am. I read food memoirs religiously- you can blame that on Anthony Bourdain, who also knows a thing or two about direct comedy.

So if you're so so about food, don't understand what it means to have a meal that makes you want to lick the plate and ask for more, this might not be the post for you.

This my friends, is the penultimate of food porn- the wedding menu.
Something to keep in mind for the following post: these are not actual pictures of the food we will have, in fact the thing to remember is this- its going to be like this, but this isn't it

Why do I not have pictures of the food that we had a tasting for from our caterer? Because man you're not supposed to look at it, you're supposed to eat it! Food changes over time; those subtle hints of awesomeness you are bound to miss in the first bites will never come back if you sit there just taking pictures.

Plus, me and S were hungry that day.
So let us begin!

Canapes: "A canapé (hors d’œuvre, “open faced sandwich”) is a small, prepared and usually decorative food, held in the fingers and often eaten in one bite."
Bella's interpretation: Its the pregame show, its meant to set you off on the right foot.

Side Dishes and Salads: "A side dish, sometimes referred to as a side order... is a food item that accompanies the entrée or main course at a meal"
Bella's interpretation: The Fixin's

Classic caesar salad
crisp baby romaine hearts and croutons tossed with a classic house-made caesar dressing, shavings of grana padano cheese, garlic and lemon

Summer salad

Entree: "An entrée (pronounced /ˈɑːntreɪ/ ahn-tray, French "entrance") is a dish served before the main course, or between two principal courses of a meal"
Bella's interpretation: The Main Event

Pasta
Summer tagliatelle
tagliatelle with summer baby vegetables, sun-gold tomatoes, zucchini, patty pan, shaved grana padano cheese, olive oil and herbs (this would be our veggy meal...pretend the picture has no meat!)

Chicken chasseur
roasted 'Farm Crest' chicken breast in a sauce of mushroom, tomato, white wine and 'Fraser Valley' bacon

Halibut provencal
baked wild halibut with a tomato, garlic, olive lemon and caper sauce

Roasted leg of fraser valley lamb
roasted 'Fraser Valley' lamb leg, with herbs, lemon and garlic, with natural jus

Dessert: "A dessert is a course that typically comes at the end of a meal, usually consisting of sweet food. The word comes from the French language as dessert and this from Old French desservir, "to clear the table" and "to serve."
Bella's interpretation: The After Party

A Dessert Buffet, which shall remain a mystery!

  1. HOly crap lady, I am soooo glad your wedding is next year, this makes it MUCH more likely I'll be able to save my pennies and come crash the wedding.

Sounds amazing, and I totally feel the same way about food! :)
